Happy Thanksgiving! Work on Stop the Hate essays - due Tuesday.
Don't forget you have Study Island due Friday. If you have not already done so, use yesterday's link to read past winners from the Stop the Hate contest. We will formally begin writing in class tomorrow.
You have 2 Study Island topics due this Friday and Vocab 6 due in one week.
For Wednesday, go to the Stop the Hate website and read two past winners--ideally one of the top ten and one at the middle school level. To find the winners, scroll down and click "Past Winners" on the left hand side. Also feel free to explore the site and get more information about the contest, which we will introduce in class tomorrow. I am sorry to say that I am out sick today, so we will need to delay our shared inquiry discussion. We will plan to move everything back one day. Your new plan and due dates are:
Wednesday (Today): Take quiz over "Tunes" part 1, work on reading assignment for part 2. Thursday: Shared Inquiry over "Tunes" part 1. Friday: Vocab test, finish comma review and take quiz Monday: Quiz and shared inquiry over "Tunes" part 2. Finish reading part 1 of Tunes for Bears to Dance to and making your annotations for Shared Inquiry. Also remember that you will take a reading quiz tomorrow.
On Thursday, you will take your open-note quiz over comma rules. Use the information on our grammar page to prepare as needed. Review your guided reading questions to complete Tunes for Bears to Dance to.
Part 1: pages 1-40 are due Wednesday. Prepare annotations for the shared inquiry questions in the above document. Also prepare for a 10 question quiz over the events in the novel. Part 2: pages 41-101 are due Friday. Prepare annotations for the shared inquiry questions in the above document. Also prepare for a 10 question quiz over the events in the novel. Any remaining discussion will be finished next Monday as we begin the Stop the Hate essay contest. Keep the contest in mind as you read, using the novel to make connections to your own life as you brainstorm ideas. REMINDER TO ALL STUDENTS: Have your parents sign your permission forms for lunch on our last day before break and for our field trip to the Violins of Hope performance in December. Turn it in ASAP so you don't forget about it! Review the Power Point on Sentence Structure on our grammar page. Be prepared to discuss and practice tomorrow.
Go to our Grammar page and review the post on clauses. Due Wednesday.
Continue working on your suspenseful narrative and begin Vocab 5. It is time to be reading your second quarter independent read. It may be any book that interests you. The topic of your second quarter four square is IRONY or JUXTAPOSITION. We will discuss how to do this in class; for now, just be reading your book. REMINDER: NO STUDY CLUB WEDNESDAY OR THURSDAY this week (because of conferences). |
