Have a good weekend! Work on an outline for your Sherlock essay. At this point, you should be deciding what your 3 literary elements are and how they create appeal. You should also be looking for a piece of evidence for each.We will look at the requirements more in-depth together tomorrow.

Review requirements for Sherlock Holmes essay (posted under Writing) and begin brainstorming. **Several of you have zeroes for Study Island and your Writer's Workshop pieces. You have until tomorrow to get those in for credit. Be sure to e-mail me with late Study Island; if you don't e-mail me, I wont see it. Today in class you will take your STAR reading test again. You can access it here.
For the Writer's Workshop tomorrow, you need to bring: Printed writing samples of your 2 topics Your schedule for the day (Given to you in class today) Any notes you made for your presentation *Mrs. Vitek will give you your blue writing portfolio tomorrow morning. You can keep your papers in there for the day and then return it. Please be sure to dress appropriately. You should be comfortable, but also remember that you are a role model and should look professional. Jeans and a nice shirt would be acceptable. Don't forget that the unit 4 vocab test is TOMORROW! (NOT Friday)
Finish your 2 pieces for the Writer's Workshop and turn in hard copies tomorrow if you have not done so already. Make sure you are prepared for your presentation as well. Study Island Q1 #5 is due Friday (3 topics) **UPDATE: You are not allowed to change the Power Point for the Writer's Workshop at all; you will present it as-is. If you made a copy so you could add presenter notes, you should print a hard copy to bring with you on Friday. **Get permission slips signed for Writer's Workshop and Movies. You need to write 2 sample pieces based off of the topics in Ralph Fletcher's A Writer's Notebook. Use the book and the notes posted on our writing page to help you. Samples are due Wednesday. Be sure to edit carefully for spelling and punctuation. You will need to turn in hard copies on Wednesday. Print before class.
Remember that you will have all class tomorrow to work on these pieces as well as your group presentation for Friday. Study Island Q1 #5 is due Friday. There are 3 topics. Vocab test for Unit 4 is Thursday. If you have not yet turned in your permission slips for the Writer's Workshop and our films, get them in ASAP. Surprise-- No school today! If you feel like being productive, you may want to look at the information I have shared for next week's Writer's Workshop. The explanation for what you'll be writing is posted on our writing page. Feel free to choose 2 topics and get writing (Look at your Paul Fleshman books for descriptions of each topic). Don't worry about coordinating with a group yet; we'll do that tomorrow, but if you've already written 2 pieces then you'll be able to use those regardless of what other group members are doing.
I've also shared a sign-up sheet with you for the 4 sessions you'll be helping with. Again, we'll address this in class tomorrow, but today would be a good day to look at it and think about which ones sound interesting. Lastly, don't forget Study Island is due Friday. Enjoy your day off! |
