Take screen shots!
Unfortunately, the Study Island program has semi-frequent glitches that can cause your scores to be changed after you log out of a topic. For that reason, you should always take a screen shot of the topic title, your number of questions completed, and your score before logging out. Oftentimes your screen will appear to change the score, but your official score (the one that Mrs. Vitek sees) is still correct. The ONLY time you need to e-mail Mrs. Vitek a screenshot is after grades have been posted to Infinite Campus. If you know that the score that has been posted is inaccurate, send the screenshot to Mrs. Vitek in a polite e-mail. You need never worry about being penalized in a situation like this; you will always receive full credit.
Requirements and Grading
Each Study Island assignment includes 2-5 topics. For EACH topic, you must complete a minimum of 10 questions and earn a minimum of 80%. If you complete 10 questions and your score is lower than 80%, you should continue answering questions until your score rises to an 80%. Meeting the requirements earns you 5 completion points for each topic.
What if I get stuck?
Some topics are harder than others. It is usually reasonable to complete roughly 20-30 questions (depending on the topic) in order to earn the required score. If you have done that many questions and you are still struggling to understand the topic, or if you have figured out the topic but your percentage is so low that you would have to answer an exorbitant number of questions in order to raise your percentage, it is appropriate to stop working. At that point, you should send Mrs. Vitek a polite e-mail requesting that the topic be reset so you can start over. Be sure to specify which topic(s) you need reset. You are always welcome to see Mrs. Vitek in Advisory to get help on a tough Study Island topic.
