Good morning, boys and girls. I am sorry to say that I am very sick and will not be allowed to return to school until Thursday so that I don't get you all sick (doctor's orders). I want to reassure you that all of your grades will be taken care of and posted on time. If you are waiting for help on Study Island, you get a free pass and full credit. We can look at it together when I return. *You will not receive credit, however, if you have not completed any of the work at all and have not e-mailed asking for help. Four Square grades will also be posted, and you will receive your edited copies back on Thursday. In the mean time, I expect you all to behave admirably and to help the substitute teacher(s) in any way you can.
*We will move the Blood Red Horse quiz and jobs for chapters 21-25 to Thursday so you have time to ask questions before the quiz. Please plan to bring your classic novel to class each day in case you have reading time. Be sure to finish your STAR test is you have not already done so (I'm checking the results at home, so I see you . . .) and complete your practice AIR test. I will post the answer key and we will have time to discuss all of our answers and strategies. See you Thursday! Good morning, boys and girls. Unfortunately, I am home sick today. I expect that you will all be on your best behavior, and hopefully I will be back tomorrow. Please follow the directions below:
A message from Ms. Casey:
Hi, all! My African American Literature class is hosting an African American Read-In on April 4th (Maya Angelou's Birthday) from 6:00-8:00 at the High School library. We will be paying homage to the sit-ins of the 1960s by asking students of all ages (and their parents) to come to the library and pledge to read a book, poem, play, essay from an African American author for at least 20 minutes. My students will be reading passages from their author study, and we will have a read-aloud corner, food, etc. RSVP Here: goo.gl/forms/3ZLskqDWpVOdQukp1 e
You will take your ELA AIR tests on April 4th and 5th-- That's the Tuesday and Wednesday after we return from Spring Break. This week, we'll be preparing by looking at the test format and taking practice tests. Click here for Practice Tests Click here for Answer Keys to Practice Tests and Sample Items found in the above link. Monday: Choose grade 7, then click Start G7 English Language Arts Practice Test. You do not need to change any of the pre-set settings. Just click OK and begin. You'll begin by reading a passage titled "Pilgrim on the Silk Road". Once you've answered those questions, questions 10-17 will appear in the top left corner. Complete questions 10-16, but you may skip 17 as it is a written response. We will discuss that on another day. The first link allows you to access several different tests, so listen closely to be sure you take the right one on the right day. **Although you can mark your answers electronically on the practice test, just as on the real tests, the practice tests do NOT save your answers. Please mark your answers both electronically AND on a piece of loose leaf paper. For multiple choice questions, even though the choices aren't labeled, you can write a, b, c, etc. for each option. This will allow you to check your work when we discuss the test together. The answer key is labeled this way. The second link allows you access to all of the answer keys for the practice tests. Although we will go over the most important ones in class, you may wish to look at other tests for further practice. For instance, you might like to look at a different grade level's practice test. This is not requirement; it is simply here as a resource for those who are interested in preparing further. Today in class you will be taking your second STAR test to assess your reading comprehension skills. Use this link to login and be sure to click the BLUE button for the STAR test.
Today in class we will take our Vocab 11 test via Google Forms.
Blood Red Horse chapters 11-15 and accompanying jobs are due Monday. We will also take your quiz on Monday. Make a copy of the Most Important Word template to share with your Blood Red Horse group.
